Jards Macalé is one of the greatest innovators in Brazilian music, known for reshaping song prosody alongside poets like Wally Salomão, Capinam, and Torquato Neto, and for creating powerful sounds with extraordinary musicians such as Lanny Gordin and Tutty Moreno. In 2022, the 50th anniversary of his debut album, Jards Macalé (1972), was celebrated—a landmark in national music for blending rock, samba, jazz, bossa nova, and tropicalism with a melancholic and experimental atmosphere. To mark this milestone, the show Jards Macalé 72 was created, featuring the original album’s repertoire performed by a power trio formed by Gui Held (guitar), a disciple of Lanny Gordin, Pedro Dantas (bass), and Thomas Harres (drums). The performance preserves the improvisation and freedom of the original recording, combining classics from the album with songs from different phases of the artist’s career. On the stage of Arena Carioca Dicró, the show honors Jards Macalé’s restless and transgressive journey, reaffirming his importance in the history of Brazilian popular music.
