With his career rapidly ascending on the international stage, Amaro Freitas has been widely recognized by outlets such as The New York Times, Downbeat, The Guardian, and Libération. After remarkable performances in Japan, the United States, and Europe, the pianist, composer, and arranger from Pernambuco solidifies his position as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary jazz. At 32 years old, he has released the albums *Sangue Negro* (2016), *Rasif* (2018), *Sankofa* (2021), and his latest, *Y’Y* (2024). The latter, whose title means “water” or “river” in the indigenous Sateré-Mawé language, is the result of a deep immersion in the Amazon. Inspired by his experience with the Sateré-Mawé community, the album reflects a spiritual and sensory connection with the forest, incorporating sounds of nature and prepared piano techniques. In 2016, Amaro was awarded the MIMO Instrumental Prize and now returns to the Festival accompanied by Sidiel Vieira (bass) and Rodrigo Digão Braz (drums). Together, they promise an engaging performance marked by the fusion of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, improvisation, and profound musical spirituality. The performance at MIMO Rio is part of the *Y’Y* album tour and anticipates the trio’s concert at the Jazz in Marciac festival in France — a result of the curatorial partnership between the MIMO Festival and Jazz in Marciac, within the Brazil-France 2025 Season.
