Founded by multi-instrumentalist Carlos Malta, Pife Muderno celebrates 30 years of reinventing the flautas de pife with a bold and contemporary language. The group presents the live show of their newly released album Edu Pife (Biscoito Fino), a tribute to Edu Lobo’s 80th birthday. The album reimagines works by the composer in collaboration with Vinicius de Moraes, Chico Buarque, and Cacaso, in vibrant arrangements by Malta. Featuring guest appearances by Hermeto Pascoal, Jaques Morelenbaum, and Matu Miranda, Edu Pife reaffirms the originality of the sextet, formed by Andrea Ernest Dias, Marcos Suzano, Durval Pereira, Bernardo Aguiar, and Fofo Black. Blending maracatu, choro, jazz, and funk, the group projects Northeastern Brazilian traditions onto the global music stage. The concert at MIMO Rio anticipates the performance of Carlos Malta & Pife Muderno at the Jazz in Marciac festival in France — the result of a curatorial partnership between MIMO and one of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals, as part of the France-Brazil Season 2025.
