MIMO MUSIC AWARD

CELEBRATING NEW TALENTS
Celebrating the strength of youth and the richness of both instrumental and vocal music, the MIMO Music Award was created in 2014 as a transformative initiative of the MIMO Festival. It is an independent, free call for entries that has become one of the most important showcases for emerging music talents in Brazil.
Open to musicians aged 18 to 35, the award accepts original or non-original works in the categories of popular music and chamber music, welcoming soloists and groups, whether instrumental or vocal. Winners become part of the official MIMO Festival lineup, performing alongside major names on the music scene.
Since its creation, the award has received over 900 applications and selected 12 artists and groups, including Hércules Gomes, Amaro Freitas, João Camarero, Antônio Guerra, Jorginho Neto, Coutto Orchestra, Vinícius Muniz, Messias Britto, and Strobo.
The selection process has brought together journalists, programmers, musicians, and artists on its curatorial committee – including Charles Gavin, Fernando Sousa, Leonardo Lichote, Marcelo Monteiro, Thiago Cury, André Oliveira, and Lu Araújo, the festival's artistic director.
In 2017, the award held its first international edition during MIMO Amarante, in Portugal, to great success.
More than just a call for entries, the MIMO Music Award is a gesture of trust in the future of art. And it has an inspiring feature: public voting. The curators select the finalists, and the audience actively participates in choosing the winners, making the award even more meaningful and democratic.
With free online applications through the festival’s website, the award continues to foster careers, connect talents, and expand the contemporary music scene.
It’s music that pulses, connects, and transforms. And it finds in MIMO its stage of discovery.
