1. IS THE FESTIVAL ENTIRELY FREE?
Yes. The entire MIMO Festival program is free of charge — including music concerts, educational activities, and other cultural experiences.
2. WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR MIMO FESTIVAL 2025?
MIMO Festival 2025 will be held in the following cities and dates:
- Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) – June 18 to 21
- Amarante (Portugal) – July 18 to 20
- Olinda (Brazil) – September 12 to 14
- São Paulo (Brazil) – September 19 to 21
In addition, MIMO will partner with the French festival Jazz in Marciac, curating four nights of Brazilian music on June 23 and 27, and August 6 and 7. More information is available under the Brazil-France section.

4. DO I NEED TO GET TICKETS FOR THE ACTIVITIES?
For some activities held in closed spaces with limited capacity, free tickets will be made available to help manage access.
Follow our schedule on the website and social media to secure your ticket (when applicable) and arrive on time. If you don’t show up on time, your seat may be given to someone else. But we’d love for you to be with us!
5. WHERE CAN I STAY DURING THE FESTIVAL?
Yes!
In Portugal, Amarante and nearby towns offer various lodging options: hotels, guesthouses, campsites, and stays near the Tâmega River. More info: https://amarantetourism.com/cat-poi/onde-ficar/
In Brazil:
- Rio de Janeiro: hotels, hostels, and vacation rentals. Suggested neighborhoods: Lapa, Flamengo, Catete, Glória, Largo do Machado, and Botafogo.
- Olinda: options in the city or in Recife, which is nearby and has a larger hotel network.
- São Paulo: many options. Stay near the city center, where the festival takes place.
In Marciac (France): there are many lodging options, including community-based tourism. Nearby towns like Tarbes are also worth checking.
6. IS THERE A FOOD COURT AT MIMO FESTIVAL?
Yes!
- In Amarante (Portugal): food area in Parque Ribeirinho from 6 PM, plus the city’s excellent local cuisine during the day.
- In Brazil, it varies by city

Rio de Janeiro: some venues offer snacks and light fare. o Olinda: a small festival food court and several nearby food stalls and restaurants.

7. HOW DO I GET TO AMARANTE (PORTUGAL)
- By car: from Porto Airport via the A4 highway — 59 km (approx. 37 min).
- By bus: use Rodonorte or Rede de Expressos. From the airport, take the metro or a bus to Campanhã Terminal, then continue to Amarante.
- By train: from São Bento or Campanhã Station to Vila Meã (approx. 57 min). Then take a car, bus, or taxi to the city center (20–30 min).

8. HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM?
The Educational Program is free and open to the general public, with a focus on music students and professional musicians.
To join, send an email to educativo@mimofestival.com with the workshop title in the subject. Some activities may require selection based on a submitted form and résumé.
9. WHAT IS THE AUDIENCE CAPACITY FOR ACTIVITIES? CAN EVENTS REACH FULL CAPACITY?
Yes, especially for indoor activities. Please follow our website and social media to book your spot (when required) and arrive on time. No-shows may lose their seats.
10. IS MIMO FESTIVAL ACCESSIBLE?
Yes. MIMO is committed to accessibility and inclusion. All venues offer:
- Designated areas for people with reduced mobility
- Adapted restrooms
- Clear signage
- Support staff onsite

11. WHERE CAN I BUY MIMO FESTIVAL MERCHANDISE?

16. HOW LONG HAS MIMO BEEN AROUND, AND WHERE HAS IT BEEN HELD?
Founded in 2004 in Olinda (PE), MIMO Festival has taken place in 14 cities across
Brazil and Europe, promoting music, cinema, education, and heritage. Since 2016, it has been held in Portugal, with editions in Amarante and Porto. In 2017, it took place in Glasgow, Scotland, in partnership with Celtic Connections.
