It's no wonder Hermeto Pascoal is known as "the wizard" or "the magician." A multi-instrumentalist and composer with unmistakable originality, he is one of the most inventive and respected figures in world music. His work effortlessly crosses genres—from jazz to forró, from classical music to the most radical improvisation—always infused with Brazilian essence and sonic experimentation. Born in Lagoa da Canoa (AL), Hermeto became known at a young age for making music out of any object, using water, pots, bottles, toys, and even his own body as instruments. He gained international recognition in the 1970s through collaborations with Miles Davis, who called him "the most impressive musician in the world." With more than six decades of career, he developed his own musical language based on concepts such as "universal music," which values improvisation and creative freedom. Approaching his 89th birthday, he continues with vibrant creativity and will be accompanied by his longtime partners: Itiberê Zwarg, André Marques, Jota P., Fabio Pascoal, and Ajurinã Zwarg. Hermeto Pascoal is one of the most anticipated artists in the lineup of the Jazz in Marciac festival in France—a result of the partnership between the MIMO Festival and Jazz in Marciac, as part of the Brazil-France Season 2025.
