The renowned violinist Ana de Oliveira, celebrated for her versatility across a wide range of repertoires and ensembles, invites three outstanding Brazilian musicians — leading figures of Rio de Janeiro's major orchestras — for the premiere of her new String Quartet. Together, they delve into the work of Joseph Haydn, the Viennese composer who holds a fundamental place in the history of Western music and is regarded as the father of the string quartet for having developed the language of this essential chamber music formation. Haydn had a profound influence on his contemporaries, such as Mozart, and was a teacher of Ludwig van Beethoven.
The program features the notable quartet The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross, structured in nine movements. Originally commissioned as an orchestral oratorio by a priest in Cádiz, the piece was later adapted by Haydn himself for string quartet. Rarely performed in Brazil, this quartet will be interpreted by Ana de Oliveira alongside violinist Gabriela Queiroz (concertmaster of OSB), violist Dhyan Toffolo (from OPES and professor at UNIRIO), and cellist Hugo Pilger, principal cellist of OPES and also a professor at UNIRIO, who, in addition to his solo career, completes the ensemble.
