It’s no coincidence that Hermeto Pascoal is known as “the wizard” or “the sorcerer.” A multi-instrumentalist and composer of unmistakable originality, he is one of the most inventive and respected figures in world music. His work traverses genres effortlessly — from jazz to forró, from classical music to radical improvisation — always infused with deep Brazilian roots and sonic experimentation. Born in Lagoa da Canoa, in the state of Alagoas, Hermeto became known early on for his ability to make music from anything, using pots, bottles, toys, water, and even his own body as instruments. He gained international recognition in the 1970s through his collaboration with Miles Davis, who called him “the most impressive musician in the world.” With a career spanning more than six decades, Hermeto has developed a unique musical language — complex yet accessible — based on concepts such as “universal music,” which celebrates improvisation, deep listening, and creative freedom. His legendary band, with whom he has performed since the 1970s, has preserved the same essence throughout the decades. At 88 years old and still brimming with creativity, Hermeto will be joined by his longtime musical partners: Itiberê Zwarg (bass and vocals), André Marques (piano), Jota P. (saxophones and flutes), Fabio Pascoal (percussion), and Ajurinã Zwarg (drums).
