Partnership between MIMO Festival and Jazz in Marciac – Brazil-France Season 2025
Founded by multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger Carlos Malta, Pife Muderno celebrates 30 years of a vibrant and contemporary musical journey. The group is renowned for reinventing the use of pife flutes — traditional instruments from Brazil’s Northeast — by placing them in a modern and sophisticated context. The sextet features virtuosic musicians: Andrea Ernest Dias, Marcos Suzano, Durval Pereira, Bernardo Aguiar and Fofo Black. Blending elements of Brazilian popular music, choro, maracatu, jazz and even funk, the group creates a unique and innovative sound deeply rooted in Brazil’s cultural traditions. Over the years, they have performed on stages around the world, including France, Japan, Germany and the USA, earning international recognition as a leading name in Brazilian instrumental music. In this concert, the group pays tribute to Edu Lobo’s 80th birthday. The album Edu Pife revisits classics composed with Vinicius de Moraes, Chico Buarque and the iconic “Arrastão,” made famous by Elis Regina.
