Partnership between MIMO Festival and Jazz in Marciac – Brazil-France Season 2025
With over 40 years of career and 60 albums released in almost 50 countries by the Carmo/ECM Records label, Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti is regarded by international critics as a complete artist of undeniable importance in our time. Gismonti will present masterpieces, known by instrumentalists around the world, to the audience of Jazz in Marciac, in partnership with the MIMO Festival. Deeply influenced by the master Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887–1959), his work reflects Brazil's musical diversity: from the rhythms of the Amazonian indigenous peoples to Rio's samba and choro, as well as the frevo, baião, and forró of the Northeast. The artist captures the essence of the Brazilian soul in a way that is both primal and sophisticated, filtered through his unique vision, enriched by a vast range of musical languages — among which jazz plays a significant role. Gismonti will be accompanied by Daniel Murray (acoustic guitar), while he himself will play the piano and the 12-string acoustic guitar.
Egberto Gismonti will also lead the masterclass “Egberto Gismonti: A Borderless Body of Work” on August 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM, at ILÔT MUSIQUE (Collège Aretha Franklin) in Marciac.
