A pianist originating from Belo Horizonte, Luísa Mitre received a MIMO Instrumental Music Award in 2018, with her quintet. With a sound marked by technical balance and refinement, the artist’s music oscillates between the class of concerto music and the swing of Brazilian popular music, and her melodies are always spiced with her own proprietary elements.
Trained in Piano, Popular Music and with an MA in Musical Performance from UFMG, she continues to pursue research about the language of MPB in her instrument and she conducts workshops on Brazilian piano and music theory. In 2019 she became the first woman to receive a Marco Antônio Araújo Award for her original album “Oferenda”.
The Luísa Mitre Quintet will perform their concert of the same name as the album released in 2018 by Savassi Festival at MIMO Festival; their songs reflect the pianist’s main musical references in rhythms, such as choro, forró, samba-choro and samba-de-roda, as well as arrangements carefully elaborated for the group consisting of a flute, a bass, percussion and a vibraphone, aside from Luísa’s piano.
Seeking to cherish, and to give visibility to original production by women, especially in instrumental music, her repertoire will be filled with music written by female composers from different Brazilian regions and generations.
