Renowned in the music scene for her research and for melodies carrying the identity, the wounds and the traditions of the Jewish people, Brazilian singer-songwriter Fortuna brings her new project “Mares da Memória” (“Seas of Memory”) to MIMO. With a highly successful performance in MIMO 2019, in Amarante, she brings to Brazil her repertoire containing songs inspired by traditional Ladin songs, where, aside from the Judeo-Spanish dialect, several aspects of the cultural fusion between Iberian and Moorish peoples come together; the rhythms and sonorities reverberate the influences of each land through which the Jews have wandered.
With a musical journey lasting longer than 20 years, Fortuna has recorded more than 10 albums, and has achieved her 10th Prêmio Sharp de Música award for best album produced in a foreign language, as well as having recorded a song specifically for the soundtrack of TV Globo Soap Opera “Velho Chico”.
In São Paulo, the artist will perform in São Bento Monastery with the Benedictine Monk’s Choir in another example of syncretism and appreciation of different cultures. The artist’s collaboration with the monks is not a recent one: in 2001, they came together to record “Caelestia”, celebrating, through music, two religions existing in constant conflict for centuries. Since then, the synergy between Fortuna and the famous monastic choir has repeated itself over the years, marking an important inter-faith dialogue translating into unique, breathtaking moments.
