EDGAR Brazil

Edgar is a pressure valve; the personification of creativity. Described as ‘the Apocalyptic Prophet’ by countless media outlets, the paulista (native to the State of Sao Paulo) artist emerges to the Brazilian musical scene with the mission of redeeming the essence of rap and fostering his commitment to shed light upon social reality, which is overlooked on a daily basis.

He is a rising star who gained visibility after featuring the track “Exu das escolas” (School Eshu) in the famous album “Deus é mulher” (God’s a woman) by Elza Soares. After that, the artist became known to audiences other than hip hop fans. In 2018, he released the album “Ultrassom” (Ultrasound). With musical production by Pupillo, Nação Zumbi’s drummer, no artistic expression in his album is isolated: lyrics, melodies, and image are placed between electronic beats, and synthesizers transforming music into an experience that goes much beyond sound.

His influences range from the chaos of life in Sao Paulo to nordestino (native to Northeast Brazil) cultural aspects. Edgar follows no formulas, and outlines dystopia-like narratives in his rap songs, highlighting issues on society, the environment, technology, and goods consumption. He was nominated debut artist by Prêmio Multishow (prestigious Brazilian music award), and the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte (APCA) (Sao Paulo Association of Art Critics).
