Winner of the first edition of the MIMO Music Award in Portugal, Chico da Tina is a rising star. With a meta-ironic attitude towards trap music subverted to the language and customs of Minho area in Portugal, the artist contrasts American styles with Portuguese ones while challenging the limits of politically correct language showing brave lyrical daring in his songs.
His YouTube view numbers are impressive. He is a musician from Viana do Castelo, in Minho region, North of Portugal. He has released an EP with 5 tracks whose lyrics are full of criticism and satirical portraits. In association with his image, those tracks blended into an unprecedented combination between rap and concertina (important Portuguese folk musical instrument), connecting tradition to modernity. This kind of music is highly appealing to young people.
In his first visit to Brazil, as one of the highlights to the official 2019 MIMO agenda – he was awarded this invitation on the grounds of winning the new MIMO Festival initiative. Chico da Tina is performing the same Amarante concert to show why he is the favorite out of over 150 artists enrolled in the MIMO Music Award.
