HILDA HILST – DISTRESSED BEING ME AND NOT SOMEONE ELSE
BRAZILIAN POET, FICTION WRITER, COLUMNIST AND PLAYWRIGHT
This year, Rain Shower of Poetry will honor Hilda Hilst, Brazilian author of more than 40 works of poetry, theater and fiction. Excerpts from various books will fall “from the sky”, urging the reader to face the conundrums of a poem that brought to light in literature the anxieties of mankind. During this magical moment of the MIMO Festival, the book “Presságio“, which was released in 1950, and “Cantares do sem nome e de partidas”, in 1995, will be represented.
Hilda Hilst lived between 1930 and 2004 and was known for her ability to portray the vulnerable condition of humans, using an innovative language for her time, through writings about death, love and sex. When individuals read these literary “raindrops”, they will understand the importance of this writer from the state of São Paulo.
Rain Shower of Poetry was the creation of poet, graphic artist and editor from Minas Gerais, Guilherme Mansur. This event has been held in Ouro Preto since 1993 and became part of the MIMO Festival in 2013. Mr. Mansur is responsible for selecting the beautiful but disturbing excerpts written by Hilda Hilst for this year’s event.
