The festival was born in 2004, in the city of Olinda, Brasil, and has become a cultural legacy that offers music, movies, education, ideas and poetry to the audience for over 15 years completely free of charge. The event foments the appreciation of historycal cities and it’s cultural heritage, the descentralization of cultural access and the dissemination of music in all it’s forms and expressions, gathering shows, movies festivals, workshops and lectures held in churches, museums, parks and theaters.
MIMO has crossed several brazilian cities such as Ouro Preto, Tiradentes, João Pessoa, Recife, Paraty and Rio de Janeiro and, in 2016, had its first edition in the charming city of Amarante, Portugal, where after a huge success returns for the 4th consecutive year for another edition.
Worldwide renowned artists of the national and international music scene, like Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Tom Zé, Ron Carter, Rui Veloso, Goran Bregovic, Mário Laginha, Céu, Pedro Burmester, Egberto Gismonti, Richard Bona, Hamilton de Holanda, amongst many others, have played at MIMO stages and in every new edition of the Festival News artists are invited to be part of MIMO’s line-up – that already has over 475 shows performed until 2018.
